To our wonderful community;
It’s no secret that Penguicon has had a challenging couple of years. From COVID-related disruptions to contractual complications with venues and everything in between, our organization finds itself in a position that requires some creative problem-solving.
At our heart, we are an open-source community, and the beauty of open-source is that it thrives on the innovation of contributors, making it adaptable, resilient, and ready to evolve.
In other words, we have a plan.
Your Board of Directors has determined to forego the traditional three-day, in-person convention for the spring of 2025.
In its place, we are excited to announce Penguicon: Underground— a series of events throughout 2025 designed to bring us together, revel in our nerdy interests, fundraise, and build momentum toward a spectacular return to a full three-day convention in the spring of 2026.
As a part of our efforts, we’ve brought on two new, non-voting officers. We are delighted to welcome Ska Green as Community Events Officer, and benny Vasquez as Sponsorship Officer. The Communications subcommittee is also hard at work enhancing the way that we reach and interact with the community.
Which means we need volunteers! If you’re interested in joining us in these areas, we would love to hear from you, so please reach out via the emails linked above, or to board@penguicon.org.
In true open-source fashion, we now turn to you, our community. We want to know what kinds of events you would be excited to attend as a part of Penguicon: Underground! Here is a link to the survey, or you can email us your ideas directly at community@penguicon.org.
We also invite one and all to join us at our monthly board meetings, the next of which is on November 25, 2024 at 7pm Eastern.
Penguicon has always strived to be an inclusive, fun place to come together. In a world that can feel so divided at times, we need the connections that are built in a community like ours. As such, the Board is wholeheartedly committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all.
